There are many great open source projects out there, but many of them are struggling with increasing awareness about it. One way how you, as a contributor, user or a community manager can help is starting to write about your experience with the project and sharing it with others via a blog post!
During this workshop, we will help you start with writing and take you from the idea to an outline of the blog post. We know that one of the hardest things about writing is staring at a blank page. We will take you step-by-step through thinking about your audience and implementing a framework that will help you write a blog post more easily and efficiently. We will also share some tips on what you can do to improve your blog posts before you publish them.
In order to join us, you will need to have an idea of the topic that you want to write about and a notebook or your laptop with you. And if you wonder what to write about, here are some examples that can inspire you:
Think about questions that new people joining the community or junior people ask you often about
Did you present any topic at the conference? Share it also as a blog post!
Did you attend an interesting talk and you feel like you have something to add to it?
If you feel like you are not an expert, but you’ve been in the project for some time, think about people who joined the community now. You are the expert for them!
Even when you’re a newcomer, you can still share experiences of what it’s like to start working in the project: that’s excellent feedback for the more experienced members.
Writing is a nice way to contribute to open source projects, whether you are a coding or non-coding contributor, open source is not just about coding :)
